In collaboration with the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), Pii Digital, our Pretoria based Digital Agency has effectively digitalised the submission process of video entries into the annual South African Film and Television Awards or more fondly referred to as the SAFTA’s.

Each year  aspiring artists, industry leaders and up and coming names in the South African film and television industry enter film footage and video submissions for consideration into the annual SAFTA awards, a South African awards ceremony hosted by the National Film and Video Foundation to honour creative excellence in local film and television industries.

This year past Pii Digital were commissioned to digitalise the previous “analogue” SAFTA entry system, while automating the judging and auditing of video entries, typically managed by a jury of three or more voluntary chairpersons. With sound experience in open source development and coding, combined with creative intuition and adaptive, inventive digital skillsets, Pii Digital were able to revolutionise the SAFTA entry process using a first of its kind in the world, multi-dimensional digital platform by way of having developed a bespoke SAFTA web based video entry application.

Catering to over 7 terabyte’s (TB) of video footage and entry uploads, coupled with a verification and audit system, the Pii Digital SAFTA Web Application has been further customised with a cataloguing function.  Furthermore Pii Digital was able to streamline the typically manual SAFTA judging process by incorporating a digitalised review process assisting the SAFTA judging committee with the elaborate review of entries.

Developed for the duration of one year, the Pii Digital SAFTA Submission Application delivers the highest system and server performance capable of managing large volumes of access and data transfers in the form of mass video uploads and entries. Coupled with custom load balancing to manage high-peak times, the Pii Digital system is also equipped with a failsafe audit security system developed to overlay the entry uploads further ensuring the validity of each and every entry as well as the judgement process.
